MEDCALF Laura

1996, Budapest, HU

Laura Medcalf is a British-Hungarian multidisciplinary artist who graduated from the Arts University Bournemouth in the UK in 2018. The proximity to the seaside inspired her to develop her unique creative methods. She has exhibited at Radcliffe Science Library, Oxford University and has undertaken some research at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew Archives, in London. Her work has been showcased in numerous solo exhibitions in Hungary, including two at the Esterházy Palace in Fertőd in 2023, as part of the IV. Mihály Mőcsényi Garden History and Art Conference themed “Garden Heritage and the Water Element”. The exhibition series, “Along the Water”, were displayed in the Orangerie and the palace’s lavish Summer Dining Hall. In spring 2024, Medcalf exhibited at The Workshop’s Gallery, invited by Brody House, with a solo show “Seek Your Light”. This was followed by “Ephemeral”, another solo exhibition in May at the Tér-Kép Gallery in Budapest.

Medcalf has actively participated in artist residencies: in 2022 at the Szent András Castle, Bölcske along the Danube, with a group of international artists. In summer 2024 she took part at another artist residency in Badacsonyörs, where she had the opportunity to work with prominent Hungarian contemporary artists near the shore of Lake Balaton. Both residency programs concluded with local
exhibitions and the latter one was held at the József Egri Memorial Museum in Badacsony. Medcalf’s works have also been displayed in London, Kirkcudbright, and Hastings, and in December 2024, she will present four selected pieces in Istanbul.
