KERTÉSZ Attila

1985, Kecskemét, HU

Attila Kertész is a Budapest-based visual artist who creates suggestive, organically shaped works from clay. He studied at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, where he obtained his master’s degree in 2009.

He began his career in the field of applied arts, before his interest gradually shifted towards autonomous artistic expression. At the core of his practice lies the material itself: by exploring the physical and spiritual potential of clay, he continuously pushes its boundaries. His artistic spectrum ranges from small-scale sculptural objects to several-metre-high outdoor and indoor sculptures, reflecting a deep commitment to material knowledge, structural awareness, precise craftsmanship and durability  all in accordance with a consistently developed artistic concept.

His sculptures are characterised by a powerful physical presence and spiritual depth, while his creative practice is defined by material-conscious experimentation. He is particularly interested in the cyclical nature of clay: the transformation of matter originating from the earth through fire, and its eventual return to the order of nature. For him, this process carries the archetypal gesture of transformation, transience and rebirth.

He is a regular participant in Hungarian and international art fairs, solo and group exhibitions, as well as international residency programmes. He is currently working in collaboration with East of Eden Gallery in Budapest and Galeria Víctor Lope in Barcelona.
