Áron Baráth’s artistic practice unfolds through the medium of abstract painting, as a sensitive and consistent exploration of the possibilities of the painterly language. His work is not concerned with representing iconographic content but with revealing the materiality of paint, the expressive power of gesture, and the emotionally associative potential of color.

His compositions emerge through a process that is partly controlled and partly instinctive and intuitive. Baráth often works on canvases laid on the floor, which he manipulates with a variety of tools—some conventional, some self-constructed—including brushes, sponges, brooms, and spray devices. This performative use of tools emphasizes the physical reality of the painterly gesture while allowing the intentional and the accidental to coexist in the composition.

Through the layering of paint, transparent washes alternate with dense, impasto surfaces, transforming the canvas into a dynamic optical space. In his painting process, color assumes a rhythmic and emotional role as much as an aesthetic one; here, it is color—not form—that dictates the work. The resulting compositions simultaneously reflect a sense of deliberate construction and the gesture of relinquishing control.

In Baráth’s work, painting is not about depiction but about the creation of an experiential field; vision itself becomes the observation of the interplay between material and time. This is a language of abstraction that is both deeply personal and universally resonant.
