József Szurcsik is a Hungarian visual artist, graphic artist, painter and recipient of the Munkácsy Mihály Prize, who has consistently built an instantly recognizable, surreal world, ranging from classical printmaking techniques through painting to spatial, object-based works. At the center of his art stands the human figure: social and psychological questions, the individual’s inner world and anxieties, as well as their relationship to power and the surrounding environment. He also plays a significant role in art education at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, serving as Vice Rector, Associate Professor of the Department of Graphic Arts, and former Head of Department, and his oeuvre has been accompanied by numerous state and professional distinctions.
